A NEW NAME
For the past 107 years (1909 -2016) our name was ‘DONCASTER AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY’ but in September 2016, the members voted to change the name to ‘DONCASTER STAGE PRODUCTIONS’ (DSP). We welcome this change as a start to a new, vibrant and current musical theatre group. We are really excited and looking forward to the future and hope this will help to attract new, younger members and audience.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We present and perform musical shows and concerts in and around Doncaster.
WHAT and HOW OFTEN?
We present one ‘big show’ a year, in Spring. A list of past shows appears on the ‘History’ page of our web site and is included in all our show souvenir programmes.
HOW IS THE SOCIETY MADE UP?
We are a happy, friendly group of like-minded theatre people who enjoy singing, acting and performing. We are fortunate to have an excellent membership with some outstanding talent. We have also adopted ‘open auditions’ reaching and encouraging talents from other areas around Doncaster to join us. New members are always welcome.
WHO CAN JOIN?
The society is open to anyone with the desire and ability to contribute to musical theatre, on stage or behind the scenes. We have a minimum age of 16 years unless the show we are doing requires children of a younger age. More details on joining the society can be found on the ‘JOIN US’ page.
WHAT’S IT LIKE TO BE A MEMBER?
We are a caring and supportive group of people who make it their duty to welcome all new members into the group. We care about each other and do our best to help each other succeed. It can sometimes be hard to be a new member and we try to make people feel relaxed and encourage them to meet socially. We have an active social section run by the social committee who arrange social and fundraising events to further the development of the society as friendships are formed and it is not unheard of for us to visit the local pub for some liquid refreshments after a rehearsal.
WHAT ABOUT ‘BEHIND THE SCENES’?
We welcome approaches from anyone interested in joining our stage crew – especially those with experience. We have other non-performing members taking on essential jobs such as ‘front of house, properties and wardrobe’ without the reward of applause.
The society is run by a democratic Committee elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
We belong to District 5b of the North East Area of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) which provides assistance and training in all aspects of theatre. It comprises over 2000 amateur theatre groups and individuals throughout the UK. Each year these groups come together in a weekend conference held at Bridlington to share their love of this wonderful hobby.
