How To Become Involved
We are always happy to welcome new members both on and off the stage who would like to become involved with our productions. We are very proud of our reputation for staging highly successful amateur shows of a very high standard. It takes a lot of skill and input from everyone involved to stage a successful show, whether on stage, behind the scenes, or as part of our hospitable front-of-house team; so whatever your area of interest there are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved.
These include acting, singing and dancing in a principal role, for which you would audition, or as part of the all-important chorus. There are a host of other roles which you may be able to help us with. If you are interested in any of the following areas we would like to hear from you:
Front of house management and stewarding, props design and construction, stage crew, photography, marketing, wardrobe, directing and producing.
For many of our members, joining the society is being part of an exciting theatrical project that interests them. The level of commitment to the Society can be as little or as much as you want – many of our non-acting members prefer just to help out during show week, whilst our performers obviously commit a significantly greater amount of time including evenings and occasional weekend rehearsals, as well as performances.
How do I join DSP?
There are currently three levels of membership – acting member, non-acting member and patron.
You can join as an acting member, non-acting member or patron by contacting our secretary by email : email@example.com
Acting members will need to do a simple voice test to allow the musical director to place you in the correct vocal section of the group and also complete the application for membership form. Prospective non-acting members only need to complete the membership application form.
What does it cost?
Membership subscriptions may vary from one production to another depending on the cost of the show and is payable by DECEMBER 31st in any year. These fees help towards the cost of insurance, hiring rehearsal venues, buying material for additional costumes or properties along with other costs involved with the production.
Full annual Membership is £75.00. Payment may be made by direct debit if required (additional details are available on request) or you can pay a little each week to spread the cost.
If you decide to audition for a principal role you will be asked to pay a £5.00 audition fee. If you decide to join then this fee will be deducted from your membership. DSP hold open auditions and only those who have paid the audition fee are allowed to audition.
Non – acting membership subscription is currently £35.00. As a non-acting member you are entitled to attend rehearsals and social events. You can come along and help out either at rehearsals or during the week of the show.
Patrons subscription is currently £30.00. As a patron you are eligible for priority booking and receive 1 seat free. Additional seats may be ordered and purchased at the same time. You may also attend social events.
We realise that people have other commitments at home and at work, but we encourage as much participation in activities beyond just turning up for rehearsals and performing. That includes social and fundraising events.
We asked some of our new members what they would like to achieve by joining the society.
- Have fun
- Make new friends
- Learn to sing and dance
