Show Week is hard work and there is a lot of organising to be done by the society.
Performances usually run from Wednesday to Saturday, with a Saturday Matinee. However, if involved, your diary needs to be blocked from the Saturday prior to the Show, to the Sunday after the Show, to allow for ‘Set Up’ and ‘Get Out’.
Prior to the show the cast should be available for a costume call, usually on a Wednesday before show week, be available for a band call and technical rehearsal on the Sunday of show week and be present at the two dress rehearsals held on Monday and Tuesday before the show opens on Wednesday.
Where possible members must be prepared to help where they can with the ‘get in’ at the theatre on the Sunday of show week. Help is again required on the Saturday evening immediately after the last performance as the scenery, dressing rooms, props room, the green room and front of house display areas all need to be cleared away.
Even though non-acting members are not involved in a show, membership of the society does bring with it certain responsibilities. Putting on a show is a ‘TEAM’ effort and any help is always appreciated. Volunteers are always needed to help sell programmes even if you can only manage one evening during the week.
It is the responsibility of every member, be it acting or non-acting, to help publicise the show and sell tickets. We can all help put up posters in our place of work and in businesses around the town such as fast food outlets, restaurants, taxi ranks, pubs, museums, libraries, coffee bars etc but please remember to ask permission first. It is essential we get our message to the public.
